The St. Louis Cardinals have tied a franchise record for the longest winning streak in a season after beating the Chicago Cubs in a day/night doubleheader at Wrigley Field yesterday (Friday).

The Cardinals defeated the Cubs 8-5 in game 1 of the double header and were victorious 12-4 in game 2.

The Redbirds have reached a historic 14 game winning streak which ties the 1935 Gashouse Gang Cardinals streak.

Their deficit in the National League Wild Card race stood at 3 games before their contest on September 11th, the start of the current winning streak.

Their lead after sweeping both ends of the split doubleheader yesterday (Friday) stands at 5 games, with their magic number trimmed to four.
